Met Life Dental Insurance

November 10th, 2007 · No Comments

Met Life insurance company offers a dental insurance plan for employers to provide to their employees as part of an overall benefits package. The Met Life dental insurance plan works as a Preferred Provider Organization, or PPO, which means that those on the plan choose their dental providers from the list of dentists that have agreed to the conditions and payment terms on the polices. There are currently just under 90,000 dentists across America participating in the Met Life dental insurance program.

Met Life dental insurance reduces the costs of dental procedures by negotiating with the dentists for dental care at a lower price. The insurance company then pays a portion of the fees that the patient acquires during the time that the dental policy is in place.

Filing a claim through Met Life is easy. On the Met Life website, patients can print off a form to send to the insurance company. The form has two portions, one for the employee to fill out, and the other for the dentist. Either the dentist or the patient can send the claim to Met Life. The benefits are typically paid directly to the patient; then, the patient has the responsibility to take the payment to the dentist. Some Met Life dental insurance plans allow the dentist to receive the payment directly from the insurance company, when the patient designates this payment structure.

Met Life has structured their plan, so that patients can choose any dentist, whether in the PPO or outside it. Those who choose not to use a participating provider can expect to have more out-of-pocket expenses, but they have the freedom to choose.
